Tam + Fam: So cute, they rhyme!

My friend Tam is just one of those friends. We can go for months without touching base… and yet, when we get back together, it’s as if no time has passed at all, and we pick back up again right where we left off. :) I love that. Tam makes me laugh like, well…. in a way that only she can, so I always look forward to catching up with her.

Last time I saw Tam, she and her husband Loren, along with their two kids Evie & Lyla, were living in San Francisco where Loren was finishing his MBA at Berkley. Emir and I caught up with them in Seattle where they literally just finished unpacking their last moving box… yet somehow already seem remarkably settled into their new home overlooking all the splendor of Mt. Rainier.

In honor of their recent 10 year wedding anniversary, Tam & Loren rounded up the girls for a quickie family photo session. :) A few quick faves…

I think this shot is so perfectly telling of their various stages/ages. Evie is whizzing by on the swing in the background, while Lyla just sort of dangles… content enough to hold herself in the swing like a ‘big girl.’

These two have an incredible history together. From their undergrad days at BYU to new beginnings at Amazon.com in Seattle… I’m so proud of them both and their inspirational example of commitment and teamwork.

Ca-yuuuute!

Lyla wasn’t having any of this shot…. but I still love it. :) Hugs to you all!

The Good Stuff

Shoots like this remind us what it’s all about.

Young families. So much love. So much to believe in. So much…. energy & giggles! :) Once Marti got warmed up to me and the camera, she was firing on all 8 cylinders. And little Ryne… he had the most adorable ‘scoot’ move ever…. even though he often left me in his dust… ha! Here’s a quick glimpse at some my favorite moments from our session. :)

Baby Thomas

This may have been the first time I picked up my camera in 2010… memory fails me (more and more it seems!). Either way…. could these two be any more delicious? Is it just me or does Sarah look like some sort of 1970′s goddess? I fantasize about images like this one for myself someday when Emir and I get around to having bambini of our own…. (hint, hint Emir! I hope you’re taking notes!)

Big sister Olivia is all kinds of curious and helpful with baby Thomas….

I love this! He just looks so squeaky new and cuddly!

Can’t get enough kisses from big sis….

So New, She Squeaks! :)

I’m often reminded of what a beautiful thing it is to do this work I am so very much honored to do. I’m not talking about the technical craft of creating beautiful images… (though that is always fun!), but rather about the fact that the families I photograph are so willing to share with me such incredibly personal and intimate glimpses into their lives.

Though I have a studio that I use when appropriate, I prefer to shoot in clients’ homes. It takes the definition of ‘personal’ to a whole new level. I am often in clients’ bedrooms, digging through their closets, moving their furniture, laundry… you name it. And I love it.

I was particularly touched by the trust this darling family extended to me. They have this lovely new addition to their family, little Kylan…. and less than 2 weeks since she entered the world…  there I am, taking over their house and invading their personal space for a couple of hours.

We talked about the delivery. Dirty diapers. Sleep schedules. You know…. girl talk stuff. Stuff you talk about with your closest of friends, not necessarily your photographer! Unless… of course….. your photographer is me. :) Kealey and I were having so much fun chatting, big sis Camryn finally interrupted asking, “Are we ever going to take pictures?????” Ha ha!

What fun it was! (You may remember this family from their recent baby belly shoot…. Camryn was too funny!)

An angel. Love that little hand under her chin….

This little cutie is such a doll…… She charms my socks off in a heart beat!

Papa Joel and his girls!

How cute is this? Kealey had mentioned to me that Camryn was upset when she heard someone refer to baby Kylan as a ‘peanut.’ I think this was the moment that I asked her about it. Camryn’s response? “She is a butterfly!” Naturally. :)

044Thank you from my heart to yours. Congrats on your wonderfully adorable family!

An Unsurprising Surprise

I love the unveiling of a shoot because…. no matter what, it’s surprising.

Surprise! Yes, you are truly  adorable!

Yes! Your family is actually this cute!

Of course….. this is no surprise to me.  I knew it all along. :)

I love shots like this! I think it’s fun for the kids to see later when they’re all grown up. They can look back and think, “Look how cute and in love mom & dad are! What a lucky kid I was!”

Of course, how could we not shoot the bumble bee costume?

1This shoot was the epitome of teamwork and determination… and it totally paid off. Gold stars to Sara & Mitch!
