Vegas Bound!

‘Tis that time of year again! I’m headed out west where I’ll be presenting at this year’s WPPI Conference. I am *so* stoked!

If you’re a photographer who will be there and want to connect, I’d love to meet you! Here’s a bit of what my schedule looks like:

Monday, March 8th: Speaking at the AsukaBook Booth (#1619)@ 3pm

Tuesday, March 9th: Teaching a Master Class @ 11am (sold out!), but you can catch me later in the day at the AsukaBook booth again at 3pm

Thursday, March 11th: You WLL NOT want to miss Photographer’s Ignite! 20 mini-presentations in 2 hours. It’s going to be a blast! I have some special things up my sleeve for my presentation… if you’re planning to attend, let me know (email or twitter message me @kplicanic), I’d love to have you there!

Seriously, come say hello…. It would be so much fun to meet you!

In between all of those fun things, I’ll be connecting with photographer friends, colleagues and some of my favorite vendor pals. This industry is all about relationships… and WPPI is a chance to put names to faces, shake hands, say hello and spend some quality time with the rest of the incredible team who (in addition to my fabulous clients!) makes my job so much fun. I can’t wait!

Special love & thanks to my generous and ever supportive sponsors: AsukaBook, Banti Album Proofing, and Adobe. I {heart} you all big time!

Lincoln’s Own Brand of Awesome Sauce

I love being part of a community that’s rich with great people, talent, innovation and ideas!

Toolulu’s Deb Averett & Christy Nelson recently produced a one-of-a-kind event in downtown Lincoln called “Awesome Camp.”

It was a conference of sorts, where everyone was welcome and anyone who wanted to could sign up to present a 20-minute seminar on the topic of their choosing. Topics ranged from kayak water-polo, to wind energy, to book publishing. Very neat!

Yours truly jumped at the chance (are you surprised, really?) and presented “Awesome Photos in 10 Simple Steps” and “Twitter: How Not to Suck at It.” Emir got in on the fun as well with a web usability presentation!

The event was generously held at Red 9 (have you eaten there lately? we were treated to salads that were out. of. this. world!) and sponsored by great folks like Screen Ink, A to Z Print, SMC  Lincoln, Toolulu, Think-Do-Be-Create, Firespring, Fierce Robot and of course, the fab peeps at Red 9.

Silicon Prairie News was on-hand and recorded this video (they apologize for the sound and video being out of sync… kinda funny!)

Here’s a video of the mavens behind the event, Deb Averette & Christy Nelson

See more images and read more about it at Silicon Prairie News and Toolulu.

Dramatic Interpretation: UNL’s Social Media Club

The fine folks over at UNL’s new Social Media Club invited me to join them at their most recent meeting last week to talk about how I use social media in my business. What a great group! They had fantabulous questions and a tangible buzz around what they’re doing. Talk about bright future leaders of tomorrow…. wow! :)

Thanks for the invite guys!

Emir catches some more silly shots of my energetic (and sometimes dramatic) interpretation. Ha!

Gasp! That’s Private! (and way too fun) | Photo Classes Lincoln

So…. what do you do if there’s something you want to learn, but you can’t make it to any of my other classes? Or maybe you’re looking for something specific (or advanced)? Or, you want an excuse to get together with friends for a customized learning experience? Go private of course! :)

Here’s a few shots from a private class I taught on Tuesday. Loads and loads of information….. but always a good time.

(Hey! No laughing at my overloaded laptop desktop! ;)

Self-Branding + Twitter: A Dramatic Interpretation

I was tickled pink when Katie Becker contacted me abut speaking/presenting a breakout session at Ad Camp (via the American Advertising Federation – Lincoln) last Wednesday. It’s always fun to get together with other creatives to talk about anything and everything, so naturally I was game.

My presentation was called, “You Tweeted What!? Self-Branding + Social Media (and how not to suck at it!).” Emir came along to snap some photos, later revealing my dramatic antics. Too funny!

And now, for the full melodramatic reenactment…. (my favorite is what appears to be an operatic aria in the top right corner… ha!) As you can see… the energy level was not exactly lacking… ;)

social-media-presentation-07social-media-presentation-03social-media-presentation-04Thanks so much for thinking of me Katie (and the rest of the crew at AAF-Lincoln!). And big thanks to the students for your enthusiasm and wonderful questions! :)
